Hole in our Gospel – Week 2

Hey Parents, last night was a blast for our community. There was a great energy and excitement.
1 quick note!
Our retreat is March 2-4th – there will be separate ones for girls and guys. sign up at www.edgebham.com/retreat
Cost is $99 this week but goes up at the end of the week!

Here some recap questions and scriptures from last night.
We had Ryan Scheidemantel teach and it was awesome! He was great.
Ryan taught from this verse (JAMES 1:27)
“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”
Here are a few questions:
1. What does its look like to obey God’s invitation for looking after the “Least of these”

We watched this video that shows how love can affect a person, causing a ripple effect in their life

2. What has had a great ripple effect in your life? Maybe a person or a moment?

3. How was the artistic opening revealing about what is going on in the world?

I hope your students aren’t stinking up the place too much!

Thanks
Justin

“FEEL THE BURN” – Following up the conversation

Hey Parents,

We kicked off our series ” Feel the Burn” last night as we talked about the pursuit of Sex. We started off the night by being honest about how our culture idolizes and glamorizes sex and physical intimacy in a relationship. Our heart for the night was to challenge our students that physical intimacy will not deliver the satisfaction and value they are hoping it will but only Jesus.

Here are a few questions to follow up the night.

Haiti Spring Break 2012 – Support Raising

Hey Haiti Team,
I know for many of you the biggest hurdle for going on Haiti Spring break will be the money.

I have crafted a sample support letter that you can download as well as instructions for having people return money for the trip.

Please use these tools to start the fund-raising target of $1800.00

Here are a few quick notes about how to fund-raise via letters.
1. Create a list of people with the help of your parents – friends, family, coaches, teachers.
2. Write a letter to send out to send out that explains what you will be doing, why you decided to go and why you are excited. Use the sample support letter that we provided it has a lot of the details of what we will be doing and what you are asking of them to support.
3. Place a letter, a contribution form that has the financial return information and an envelope with a return support label that address it to finance.
4. Mail out your letters and we will help you keep track once we start meeting!

Here are the 3 documents to download, click on them to download.
- Sample Support Letter
- Return address Labels
- Contribution Form

Starting in January we will dialogue about other ways to fund-raise as well!

Tough Question Week 3

This week at Edge we had a live panel for a live Q&A.

It was a great time with plenty of challenging questions.

I would open up the discussion with your student by asking them a few questions.
1. What tough questions do you have about faith?
2. What question did you love hearing the answer to?
And the third question may be a great challenge or opportunity.
3. What are some questions that you could look up as a family?

Let me communicate a few key items with our tough questions series.
1. we want students to know that they can ask questions as they pursue their faith. Students need to know that they do not need to follow Christ blindly but can pursue questions that they are wrestling with. When we wrestling with some of these topics they only make our faith stronger in the end because you know what you stand for.

2. In the midst of any doubt or journey, we believe that Christ is constantly inviting us to experience His love and sacrifice. THat whether we believe in Christ, he ALWAYS believes in us and is longing for us to experience His Love and freedom.
I believe we see it through the scriptures from verses like John 3:16 to other verses like John 10:10

I pray that these questions would only be a resource to your faith and conversations with your students!

Thanks
Justin

TOUGH QUESTIONS FOLLOW UP WEEK 2

As we entered into our 2nd week of our series Tough Questions, we dove into the question: If God forgives, can i do whatever i want?

This is a question that has always been a tension.

We looked at a few verses of scripture and discussed the idea of what freedom really looks like in Romans 6:14-16

Here are a few follow up questions to help your conversation with your students!

Tough Questions Follow Up Week 1

Hey parents,

This past sunday night was a great kickoff to our tough questions series.

We really wanted to have our students have some of the questions that they are asking discussed in our community.

The 1st week revolved around – What do bad things happen to good people? Another way we also talked about it was, How can a loving God and Suffering both exist?

Here are 3 questions to further the dialogue with your teen.
1. How do we see the unfairness of life play out around us? Where is there suffering that surrounds us?
2. If Jesus engages in the suffering of the blind man in John 9, how do we see God wanting to engage with our sufferings?
3. How can we be part of the suffering we see around us? How can we begin to be part of the solution?

The next 3 weeks look like this before our winter break!
Dec 4th – “If God is forgiving, why can’t i live how i want?”
Dec 11th – We are having a panel of questions that were asked by students answered
Dec 18th – EDGE BHAM CHRISTMAS PARTY!!!!

Looking forward to hearing about how your conversations are going!
